About

Hi, my name is Stacy Peterson, and I am a clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience. I am committed to fostering resilience and promoting personal growth, ensuring that individuals and institutions alike are empowered to thrive. My diverse background includes working in youth services, schools, courts, and higher education. My diverse experience has given me various tools to support clients. My communication style is empathic, inclusive, and non-judgemental. I respect each client's identities and work to understand how those identities create a unique experience. I have an eclectic approach to therapy, often drawing from CBT, motivational interviewing, strengths perspective, and mindfulness that allows me to be flexible to meet client’s needs.

I have spent the past five years working in higher education as a gender-based violence advocate and visiting assistant professor. I have witnessed the impact that trauma has on learning. My experience has taught me the critical role faculty and staff play in supporting students who have experienced trauma and helping foster their learning. I provide expert training on trauma-informed care and trauma-informed educational pedagogy, equipping faculty and staff with the tools and knowledge needed to create supportive and healing environments. This has fostered a passion for helping universities create trauma-informed learning spaces.

As a consultant, I collaborate with universities and departments, guiding them in integrating trauma-informed educational pedagogy into their programs and making trauma-informed care a core institutional value.

I have a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University, with a concentration in clinical social work, and a Doctorate in Social Welfare (DSW) from the University at Buffalo. My DSW capstone project focused on operationalizing trauma-informed pedagogy for use within a social work department using implementation science. I am licensed in New Hampshire and California.
